Stuart Ziemelis - Background .

After winning his first British Championship in 1981, Stuart founded SRS Racing. Primarily an engine tuning business for all makes and categories of kart and motorcycle engines. It soon became apparent that Stuart’s ability to prepare and fine-tune engines was in great demand.

With over 100 customers in 125cc alone, he began to specialise in this class along with 250cc Formula E. His reputation and customer base would grow to include well known names within the Motorsport industry such as Martin Hines who used a SRS Racing prepared Rotax to achieve his first Rotax win and Lennart Bohlin of Sweden to win the World Championship title in Formula E.

Also at this time SRS Racing began to supply karts to compliment the tuning business and agencies for AERO Karts, ZIP and Deavinsons were secured.

1982. Stuart wins his second British Championship – this time a long circuit title. The Grand Prix also nearly came his way this year. Having qualified on pole with two straight heat wins, he was involved in an horrific accident, which put him out of the meeting.

1983. Stuart recognises a need for proper driver training and the SRS Racing Kart School is formed, offering novice drivers not only the opportunity of expert tuition but also the chance to test their skills before the expense of buying their own equipment. Pupils at the school can then go on to rent equipment for their first race and receive help and guidance during their first meeting.

1984. Stuart decides to expand further and adds race preparation to the SRS Racing portfolio, offering customers the chance to become part of the team. Customers can now leave their outfit with SRS Racing and have it prepared for the next meeting, knowing all they needed to do was turn up, relax and drive.

1985/86. Stuart’s own racing career developes with a Formula Ford FF2000 drive. He proves his natural speed and racing ability by winning races and achieving consistent results alongside some of the future stars of F1 including Mark Blundell, Jonny Herbert and Eddie Irvine. Financial backing would prove the downfall to his FF2000 career and Stuart's attention now turns solely to the growing karting business.

1987. SRS Racing develop the LAZER Kart, a fully fledged homologated racing kart chassis . 1987 is to be a test year for the LAZER Kart, but, with the first chassis' being sold abroad it is allready in demand and proving itself.

4 months later and Stuart proves the Lazer's pedigree and wins first time out with a win at Fulbeck in 125 National. The remainder of the season is contested in 250 National to prove the chassis and road test the build quality that Stuart was becoming renowned for. Cadet and 100cc karts would follow in 1988 totalling 8 models in the race range and 4 in the commercial/fun range.

1989. Lazer Karts & SRS sweep the board across the UK with a string of Championship wins.

• Martin Pluck - 250 National Grand Prix Champion.
• Andy Fleming - Isle of Man Grand Prix Champion.
• Mike Morris - Welsh GP Champion.
• Alex Pettigrew - Scottish GP Champion.

1990. Stuart is offered a 'works assisted' Formula Ford drive with Fulmar, driving a Reynard. After achieving good results Stuart is forced to retire due to major sponsorship withdrawal beacuse of the imminent recession.

1991. SRS Racing continues to flourish amid the economic downturn and Stuart takes 2nd place in the British 125 Open Grand Prix and Richard Crump is 2nd in the 250 National Championships. By now SRS Racing has outgrown its home so a purpose-built workshop is purchased.

For the 1994 season, SRS Racing/LAZER Karts looked forward to a new era in karting where technology and data logging equipment would play a major role in development and performance. Stuart joines the Silverstone Driving School on a freelance basis as an “A” Grade ARDS (Association Of Racing Drivers Schools) Instructor.

1995. To further expand the SRS racing business, the Southern area distributor licence is awarded to SRS for the Anderson CSK range of chassis and associated components.

1996/97. With the introduction of the new Association of Racing Kart Schools (ARKS) testing becomes mandatory for newcomers to the sport, SRS Racing is one of 13 nationwide MSA recognised schools and Stuart remains on the Board of Directors for ARKS. The sport of karting continues to grow beyond all expectations, with economy and eco-friendly classes. Major competition between manufacturers has kept costs low but quality high.

The noughties. (2000s). SRS Racing remains at the forefront with club champions in both 2000 and 2001, and runners-up in 2002. SRS Racing has a steady flow of up and coming hopefuls through the doors and continues to offer first-rate training and kart preparation.

2006 - present. Stuart becomes a Driver Training Consultant to the major performance road car manufacturers including Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz.

2009. Stuart rebrands the business and broadens his appeal to the motorsport industry, taking part in both the Gaz Shocks Production BMW Championship and the Toyo Tyres Championships whilst developing the Ziemelis franchise both in the kart and car motor racing industry.
